First day of sixth grade for this crop of kids, and it was a good day! The kids did a nice job, and the day flew by. We were all amazed at how quickly the time went by today. I always tell “my” kids how fast sixth grade will go for them, and at the end of the year they usually say, “you were right!”
I hope they have a good year, enjoy it, and work hard. Preparing the students for junior high, and beyond, is a big job. I won’t say it is easy, but it can be very gratifying. It can also be very frustrating, but so far this group seems to be receptive and good to work with.
We’ll see tomorrow and in the coming days as the “newness” of being in sixth grade wears off. I’ve already told them that this short week is going to be less intense as we ease into the new school year, but they should come to school on Monday ready to listen and learn. We have a lot to accomplish. It’s going to be fun and interesting, but we have work to do.
I think it’s going to be a good year.
