High school haiku

Today’s writing prompt: Write a haiku (first line 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables, third line 5 syllables) about your first day of high school.

A sea of faces
the kids sneering but frightened
uncertain posers

A little background: Our high school was brand new and several towns’ middle/junior high schools came together in one high school for the first time. The building was new, the teachers were new, the concept of the high school (“open concept” with “learning modules” instead of “classes,” which were the same thing with a different name) and everything was disorganized and untried that first day, actually for quite a while after the school opened. It was a weird time, until later in the year when everyone settled in and it became “our” school.

  1. Oh my goodness. Haiku had not yet been invented back when I attended high school. And I certainly do not remember any details about the first day.
    it was long ago,
    before there was a haiku.
    and long before you.
